ScreenZen alternative: spend the wait learning
ScreenZen adds a wait before a distracting app opens, which can grow every time you open it, plus prompts and breathing. It’s free and well loved. BrainTok fills that moment differently: with a few quiz questions you actually learn from.
We make BrainTok, so read this knowing that. We’ve tried to be fair: every fact about the other app comes from its own website or App Store page, linked at the bottom.

Where ScreenZen is better
It’s free, it runs almost everywhere, and it has more ways to limit yourself: growing waits, open limits, strict blocks with a settings lock, and a Minimal mode that hides Reels and Shorts.
Where BrainTok is different
A wait asks you to do nothing; BrainTok asks you to think for a few seconds. You answer questions on topics you picked or quizzes you made from your notes, see why each answer is right, and the app opens. It turns the same pause into practice.
Questions
Why pay when ScreenZen is free?
You’d pay for the learning: a reviewed quiz library, AI quizzes from your own material, Study time and stats on what you’ve learned. If you only want friction, ScreenZen is hard to beat.
